Do you believe in ghosts? Have you ever seen one?

What did you know about Elizabeth Bathory prior to being cast in Bloody Bathory?

A lot.*

*Millie is also the playwright.

Favorite scary film?

The Poltergeist or Silent Hill

Do you believe in ghosts?  Have you ever seen one?

I don’t think I believe in ghosts, but I do believe in things being haunted. I don’t know why those two things are different in my mind, but I definitely believe that certain things or places have something more going on there. I like the idea of a dark or spooky history sticking around.

What did you know about Elizabeth Bathory prior to being cast in Bloody Bathory?

The earliest /oldest knowledge I had about Elizabeth Bathory that sticks in my mind is, the comic artist Todd McFarlane used to do these horror / fantasy figure series— there was one about historical figures, and one of them was Elizabeth Bathory in a fancy clawfoot tub full of blood, with a big candelabra full of heads next to it. Past that, there is a really good episode of the Lore podcast about her story and history.

Favorite scary film?

None. I can’t handle scary movies. I get very scared. Maybe Nightmare Before Christmas, because I do love that movie and it’s creepy enough to count, right?

Cory David Williamson is and actor and playwright from Northern Idaho. He performed in the Bloody Bathory project as Ficzko.  He has worked with Steppenwolf, Strawdog Theatre, Lifeline Theatre, The Other Theatre Company, Something Marvelous, Haven Theatre and Filament Theatre. He participated in the writer's room with New Colony.  He is a graduate from the University of Idaho and is an alum of the School at Steppenwolf.

Do you believe in ghosts? Have you ever seen one?

No, I don't. Yes, I have.

What did you know about Elizabeth Bathory prior to being cast in Bloody Bathory?

There was a toy made by Todd McFarlane that depicted Bathory bathing in a clawfoot tub full of blood. And next to her was a giant candelabra with three girls heads stuck to it. Gross. And as a child I always hated seeing that toy at the store. I kinda wanted it, but that was most likely fearful fascination.

Do I believe in ghosts?

I do but not in a spiritual way, more in a metaphysical, the-human-brain-is-an-odd-thing way (that's probably a pretentious answer but, you know, that's life). I've never seen one myself.

What did you know about Elizabeth Bathory prior to being cast in Bloody Bathory?

That Millie was playing her.

My favorite scary film is

Probably The Fly or The Thing

Do you believe in ghosts? Have you ever seen one?

Yes, I do! While I've never seen a ghost appear before me, I've had plenty of apartments where I've felt uneasy/like someone was watching me. I also remember vividly one time in high school I was hanging out completely alone in the auditorium, (dark audience, very stage light) just taking a moment before heading out to my next class. Someone clear as day said in my ear "Leave, now." But there was no one next to me, no one in the wings, no one in the audience, I was completely alone.

A man named Fred supposedly died from a fall while building the auditorium, I guess he's still there, and kinda territorial.

What did you know about Elizabeth Bathory prior to being cast in Bloody Bathory?

I knew a little bit, but most of it was mythic or fantastical rumors from podcasts like "My Favorite Murder" or "Lore". It been really interesting to learn where fact and fiction of her life gray.

Favorite scary film?

Ugh, you're gonna make me choose? Current: Hereditary, Classic: Scream or Texas Chainsaw Massacre

Maggie Miller is so excited to be working once again with The Barrens Theatre Co. Maggie is an actor, playwright and preschool teacher. You may have seen them onstage with (re)discover theatre, Midsommer Flight or The Neighborhood Theatre, or their recent work in The Barren's short play festival After. Maggie is very excited to be understudying such an intensive immersive project and looks forward to exploring the countess' castle.

Do you believe in ghosts? Have you ever seen one?

My whole family believes in ghosts, but I've never seen one. We have a family saying not to mess with things we don't understand.

What did you know about Elizabeth Bathory prior to being cast in Bloody Bathory?
I had heard about a countess who bathed in the blood of virgins to stay young and beautiful. What I've learned now is much, much scarier!

Favorite scary film?

I love true crime documentaries. Abducted in Plain Sight, Missing 411, I really like the documentaries where there is no answer. Just like Bathory, I think the truth can be much more frightening than fiction.

Kayla is thrilled to be back with the Barrens this fall! A Seattle transplant, she received her BFA in Performance from the University of Idaho, and has since studied at The iO Theater, The Second City, Black Box Acting Studio, and Acting Studio Chicago. Kayla also performs regularly with her improv team Stable Manners.

Do you believe in ghosts? Have you ever seen one?

Currently undecided on ghosts. I've never seen one but I’m pretty sure my cat has.

What did you know about Elizabeth Bathory prior to being cast in Bloody Bathory?
I knew nothing!

Favorite scary film?

I’m not what you would call a Scary Movie Person. I saw Signs in middle school and slept on my parents’ floor for a week. I saw Paranormal Activity in high school and couldn’t shower without panicking for a week. I saw The Woman in Black in college and was sure that she was lurking in my dorm room for a week. That one was my favorite I guess?

Richard is excited to be working with Barrens Theatre on this immersive project. Richard is originally from Nebraska but has been working here in Chicago for four years. He was last seen in Midsommer Flight's The Tempest where he is a company member, but has worked with City Lit, EDGE of Orion, Chicago Danztheatre Ensemble, and Broken Nose. He hopes you enjoy the show and have a spooky Halloween.

Do you believe in ghosts? Have you ever seen one?

Absolutely, I'm sure I've seen one in every old theater I've worked in.

What did you know about Elizabeth Bathory prior to being cast in Bloody Bathory?

I know she's "like" the female Vlad III Dracula (Vlad the Impaler), except her victims where more specified and targeted. She also worked under more of a vale of secrecy. She owns a fascinating legacy that I wish we all know more about.

Favorite scary film?

The Exorcist: it's thriller/suspense/horror, rooted in a real life story, and the camera tricks they pull are horrifying and brilliant.

Do you believe in ghosts? Have you ever seen one?

I do believe in ghosts, I’ve had a couple friendly ghosts in past apartments who do small things such as: knock of wine glasses, move pantry items, and even push off my cable box. I’ve never seen one, but one of the ghosts once broke a wine glass I was holding in my hand by exploding the stem.

What did you know about Elizabeth Bathory prior to being cast in Bloody Bathory?

I did not know much about Elizabeth Báthory prior to this show expect she was a countess in the 1500’s. Her history was a thrill to learn about.

Favorite scary film?

My favorite scary movie of all time is “The Ring.” It’s simply classic and well executed. It hooks me in every time!
